SMOOTH vs CRUNCHY

The “Smooth vs Crunchy” proposition can just be as palatable as the peanut butter itself. It all boils down to your personal preferences, how you pair it up and what do you want to use it for. Some like it smooth simply because it is easier to spread and more visually appealing while crunchy peanut butter lovers crave its ‘nutty’ and ‘chewy’ thrills. It doesn’t matter if you prefer a smooth or crunchy peanut butter. Most importantly, both of them carry about the same amount of nutritional value. 

Why Peanut Butter Has Oil On Top?

First of all, grinding peanuts releases their natural oil into the manufacturing process, which makes the peanut butter creamy. So, the oil that collects at the top is actually a good sign of how natural your peanut butter is. Scientifically speaking, the low-density peanut oil remains in liquid form at room temperature and won’t mix with the solid peanut butter. So as the peanut butter sits, the oil rises and collects at the top. Having said that, you are not supposed to pour off the all-natural oil, otherwise your peanut butter will dry out and won’t taste as good as intended. Here is a hack: you can either stir through the natural peanut oil thoroughly before consumption or store the jar upside down to prevent the oil from floating to the top.
